DP Curriculum Framework

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an internationally-recognised, two-year programme aimed to develop students physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP Core includes - Language & Literature, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and Art. All students must choose a total of six subjects, three Higher Level (HL), and three standard Level (SL).

The core elements every student must pass are - Theory of Knowledge; where students reflect on the nature of knowledge, The Extended Essay; a self-directed piece of research, and Creativity, Activity, Service; in which a student completes a project on these concepts.

It encourages students to be knowledgeable, inquiring and compassionate, while developing intercultural understanding, open-mindedness and respect for others’ views.

IB Learner Profile

Central to all IB Programmes is the IB Learner Profile. Made up of ten attributes that support all members of the school community to work towards and demonstrate as lifelong learners. At DIA, students and staff demonstrating these attributes are celebrated and recognized throughout the academic year.

10 Reasons

The IB Programmes foster critical thinking, problem solving, and encouraging students to play positive roles in their communities and society as global citizens. All learning is based on real-world situations that allows students to understand the relevance of what they are learning. Students are taught to think conceptually, exposing them to familiar and unfamiliar situations, and how to apply their knowledge to different situations.

DP Core

"Made up of the three required components, the DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

The three core elements are:

Theory of knowledge, in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.

The extended essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
‍
Creativity, activity, service, in which students complete a project related to those three concepts."

Graduation Pathways

DIA offers a range of pathways to graduation to its students, which allows for choice in terms of what route is the best suited for individual student growth, success, and development to future goals. Students must follow the pathway that is the most appropriate and are encouraged to pursue the most rigorous and challenging pathway of which they will have success and is aligned with their post-graduation aspirations.
